Lyndl Thorsen Joseph

Lyndl Joseph, AIA, NCARB, is the president and chief executive officer of Great Seal LLC. She oversees the company’s strategic direction and provides management of all company operations.

An award-winning architect with more than 30 years of innovative experience, Lyndl performed virtually every role in the design process during her career. Her record of assembling and directing project teams while managing multiple fast-track design build efforts has earned her the respect and admiration of her peers and the deepest confidence of her clients.

Lyndl provides expert knowledge, invaluable perspective, and creative vision to the design and delivery process. Recognized in the community as an expert in residential design, and historic architecture, Lyndl is also an authoritative source on historic preservation regulations and building laws associated with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

As an advocate for environmentally sustainable solutions and energy efficiency, Lyndl has recently completed Design of an Energy Star registered new home in the City of Alexandria using her experience in leveraging Green Technology to create a design that will positively impact the surrounding environment while addressing the specific needs of her clients. She is frequently inspired by physical and social context, sustainability, lighting, space, and streetscape, and approaches her projects as an opportunity to explore the unique possibilities each presents.

Lyndl’s work has garnered wide recognition and been featured on-screen as well as in international publications such as Novum Magazine. Her design projects have earned awards from the American Institute of Architects and the American Advertising Association, among others, and have been exhibited at the Virginia Center for Architects and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

An active member of the American Institute of Architects, the United States Green Building Council, and the National Council of Architectural Registration Board, Lyndl is currently licensed to practice within the State of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Colombia.

Lyndl attended the Virginia Commonwealth University’s prestigious School of Arts – the number one ranked arts and design program in the nation, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Arts, and Design. Following her undergraduate studies, Lyndl received her Master of Architecture Degree from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Lyndl began her professional career in Richmond, Virginia, when she became the first woman ever hired as a Graphics Designer by Reynolds Metals’ Styling and Design Department, there Lyndl’s talent enabled her to handle important client accounts while working closely with Senior Management on large, high-visibility public relations campaigns.

 During her time there, Lyndl designed the trademark logo for the then-newly-invented “FLEX-CAN” now popular worldwide. She went on start her own company and successfully planed, created, and designed over 75 uniquely tailored Corporate Brands for high-visibility clients including the Smithsonian, the World Bank, Defense and Diplomacy Magazine, the Richmond Symphony, the Public Broadcasting System (PBS), as well as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Patent and Trademark Office (PTO), among others.

Lyndl is proud advocate of supportive housing services and accessibility accommodations for Persons with Disabilities and Disabled Veterans who are economically less fortunate. She has provided her services in support of these groups on a Pro Bono basis. Within her local community, Lyndl has actively leveraged her expertise and utilized her experience in support of a variety of civic engagements that have included serving on the Alexandria City Board of Architectural Review, the Alexandria City Commission for the Arts, the Alexandria Little Theater Building Committee, the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington Planning Committee, and serving as a judge for the American Building Council and the National Association of Builders and Contractors.
