The Renovation and Addition of the Collision Center program consisted of a four bay garage addition and the consolidation of three parcels of land into one. The design Intent was to effect a change in appearance between the existing and proposed 4 bay garage wing and to reduce the amount of exposed metal that would be evident in the garage doors, while still blending in with the surrounding structures. The Schematic Design will need to be approved by the Board of Architectural Review for the City of Fairfax, Virginia.
A masonry structure with the same structural integrity as the existing building is implemented to merge the two structures into one unit using veneer stone and stucco to create a seamless appearance. For Sustainability and economy we matched the existing tinted south facing windows and casing with the purposed garage doors, and entry doors which would all allow natural lighting into the garage from the Southern prospect. Because these efforts were proprietary we allowed the color of the tinted windows to dictate the selection of the veneer stone and stucco. The largely horizontal composition is broken up by employing vertical galvalume siding which enunciates the entry doors into the facility. The project is expected to be complete in the summer of 2014.
